Woven Wall Art Workshop: Nature-Inspired Mini-Weaving

Details: Create your own custom hand-woven tapestry! Learn to warp a mini-loom and then explore modern frame-loom weaving techniques inspired by color, shapes, and patterns found in nature.
Choose from yarn and fabric in a WIDE variety of colors, materials, and textures.
Guided by Tyler, you’ll learn how to add tassels, creating rya knots, plain or tabby weave, as well as the sumac weave. Display your finished piece with your choice of a wooden dowel or a stick.
Workshop Space:
This workshop will take place at Gallery B in Bethesda, MD, which is showcasing "A Persistent Nature" for Climate Month, April 3 - April 26, by the ImageineEarth Collective. You'll be creating in the gallery space surrounded by nature-inspired artwork from 8+ artists, including workshop instructor, Tyler Sanville.
The ImagineEarth Collective (@imagineearthcollective) explores this commonality through works from our climate-focused artists, who are persevering amid a DMV community undergoing change and volatility.

Materials Provided:
- One mini frame loom (this is yours to keep to continue weaving after the workshop)
- 100% Cotton warp string
- Weaving needle
- Access to a wide variety of high-quality fibers to weave with
- Scissors
- Dowel or stick for displaying finished tapestry
Participants are welcome to bring any fibers, fabrics, or other materials from their personal collections that they would like to incorporate.
About the Instructor:
Tyler is a modern fiber artist and instructor based in Riverdale, MD. Her practice is shaped by a 15-year career in environmental advocacy, drawing continual inspiration from the natural world. Blending traditional textile techniques with contemporary expression, Tyler uses bold colors and rich textures to create abstract fiber art that resembles textures and patterns found in landscapes and ecosystems.
In addition to creating, Tyler teaches fiber art workshops, creating space for people to slow down, connect, and discover the therapeutic value of working with fiber. Known for her welcoming, inclusive teaching style that fosters creativity, community, and joy. Whether working with small groups or large audiences or designing art for your space, she is committed to making fiber art accessible and inspiring care for one another and the planet.
